How to make Gulab Jamun?
Gulab Jamun is the famous dessert in India and Pakistan.Here is the recipe of gulab jamun:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp ghee or melted butter
- 3-4 tbsp milk (or more as needed
to make a dough)
- Oil or ghee for frying
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2-3 green cardamom pods, lightly
crushed
- 1/2 tsp rose water (optional)
- 1 tsp chopped pistachios or
almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1.
In
a blending bowl,join milk powder,regular flour,and baking powder.
2.
Add
ghee or melted butter and mix with your hands until it resembles coarse crumbs.
3.
Gradually
add milk, a tablespoon at a time, and knead the mixture into a soft dough. The
mixture ought to be smooth not excessively tacky.
4.
Partition
the mixture into little parcels and roll them into the smooth balls.. The size
should be slightly smaller than a ping pong ball.
5.
Heat
the oil or ghee in a deep frying pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot,
reduce the heat to low and add the dough balls.
6.
Fry
the dough balls on low heat, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown
in color. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
7.
Once
done, remove the fried balls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined
plate to absorb any excess oil.
8.
In
a separate pot, add sugar, water, and crushed cardamom pods. Bring to a boil
and simmer for 5-6 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the syrup thickens
slightly.
9.
Add
rose water (if using) and remove from heat.
10. Add the fried dough balls to the warm
syrup and let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
11. Garnish with chopped pistachios or
almonds (if using) and serve warm or at room temperature.
