Italian Calzone Recipe | Best Calzone Recipe

Calzone is a savory Italian turnover that is made with pizza dough and stuffed with various fillings. Here's a recipe for a classic calzone:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Flour for dusting
  • Olive oil for brushing

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. Carry out the pizza batter on a floured surface to a thickness of around 1/4 inch. Cut the dough into two equal halves.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, chopped basil, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. On one half of each dough, spread the filling mixture leaving 1 inch border. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press down the edges to seal.
  5. Brush the calzones with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake the calzones for about 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the calzones from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
  8. You can serve the calzone with some additional marinara sauce on the side, if desired.

Enjoy your homemade calzones!
