 How to make Shepherd's pie recipe with cheese?

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2-3 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4-5 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the onion, carrots, and garlic to the skillet and cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef or vegetable broth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Add the frozen peas and parsley to the skillet and mix to consolidate. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. Transfer the beef mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the beef mixture, making sure to cover it completely.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the mashed potatoes.
  8. Bake the shepherd's pie for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the mashed potatoes are lightly browned.
  9. Let the shepherd's pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
