What is the recipe of Pav Bhaji?
Pav Bhaji is
a popular street food dish from Mumbai, India. It's a spicy and flavorful
vegetable curry that is served with soft buttery buns (pav). Here's a recipe
for making pav bhaji at home:
Ingredients:
For the
bhaji:
- 3-4 medium-sized potatoes,
boiled and mashed
- 1 cup cauliflower florets,
finely chopped
- 1 cup green peas
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely
chopped
- 1 capsicum, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 2-3 green chilies, finely
chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp pav bhaji masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 3-4 tbsp butter
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
For the pav:
- 8-10 pav buns
- 2-3 tbsp butter
- A pinch of pav bhaji masala
powder
- Finely chopped coriander leaves,
for garnishing
Instructions:
- In a huge container heat spread
and add cumin seeds. When the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped
onions, green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste. Saute until the onions
turn translucent.
- Add the hacked tomatoes and cook
until they become delicate and soft. Then, add the finely chopped capsicum
and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the finely chopped
cauliflower florets and green peas to the pan. Mix well and cook for
another 5-7 minutes.
- Add the mashed potatoes,
turmeric powder, pav bhaji masala powder, and salt to taste. Mix well and
mash the vegetables using a potato masher or back of a spoon. Cook for
another 5-7 minutes.
- In a separate pan, heat butter
and pav bhaji masala powder. Slice the pav buns into half and roast them
on the pan with the butter and masala.
- Garnish the bhaji with finely
chopped coriander leaves and a dollop of butter. Serve hot with the
roasted pav buns and lemon wedges.
