How to make pani puri at home?
Pani puri is a popular Indian street food that consists of
small, crispy puris filled with a spicy and tangy water, mashed potatoes,
chickpeas, and chutney. Here's a recipe for making pani puri at home:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup
semolina (sooji)
- 1/4
cup all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/4
teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4
teaspoon salt
- Oil
for frying
- 1 cup
boiled and mashed potatoes
- 1/2
cup boiled chickpeas
- 1/4
cup chopped onion
- 1/4
cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4
cup tamarind chutney
- 1/4
cup mint-coriander chutney
- 1/4
cup chaat masala
- 1/4
cup cumin powder
- 1/4
cup black salt
- 1/4
cup lemon juice
- 1/2
cup water
- Ice
cubes
Instructions:
- In a
mixing bowl, combine semolina, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mix well.
- Add
enough water to make a stiff dough. Knead for a coupleof moments until the
batter is smooth and malleable.
- Divide
the dough into small balls and roll them into thin circles. Use a cookie
cutter or a small bowl to cut out small circles from the rolled dough.
- Heat
oil in a deep frying pan. Once the oil is hot, fry the puris until they
turn golden brown and crispy. Drain excess oil and set aside.
- In a
mixing bowl, combine mashed potatoes, boiled chickpeas, chopped onion, and
cilantro. Mix well.
- In
another mixing bowl, mix together tamarind chutney, mint-coriander
chutney, chaat masala, cumin powder, black salt, lemon juice, and water.
Mix well.
- Take
each puri and make a small hole in the center using your thumb or a fork.
Fill the puri with the potato mixture and dip it into the spicy water.
- Garnish
with some more chopped onion and cilantro. Serve immediately with ice
cubes on the side.
