How to make kheer?
Kheer is a
delicious pakistani and indian dessert that is made with milk, sugar, and rice or vermicelli.
Here is a recipe to make kheer:
Ingredients:
- 1 liter full-fat milk
- 1/4 cup rice or vermicelli
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4-5 cardamom pods
- A pinch of saffron
- 2 tablespoons chopped nuts
(almonds, cashews, pistachios)
Instructions:
- Rinse the rice or vermicelli in
cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for 30 minutes.
Drain the water and keep aside.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, bring
the milk to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat to low and let
the milk simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the soaked rice or
vermicelli to the milk and stir well.
- Let the mixture simmer on low
heat until the rice or vermicelli is cooked through and the milk has
thickened to a creamy consistency. This can require to 30-45 minutes.
- Add the sugar, cardamom pods,
and saffron to the pan and stir well.
- Let the kheer cook on low heat
for another 10-15 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the flavors
have melded together.
- Switch off the intensity and let
the kheer cool to room temperature
- Garnish with chopped nuts before
serving.Chilled the kheer at room temperature and serve.
