 How to make kheer?

Kheer is a delicious pakistani and indian  dessert that is made with milk, sugar, and rice or vermicelli. Here is a recipe to make kheer:


Ingredients:

  • 1 liter full-fat milk
  • 1/4 cup rice or vermicelli
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4-5 cardamom pods
  • A pinch of saffron
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice or vermicelli in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep aside.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pan, bring the milk to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the milk simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the soaked rice or vermicelli to the milk and stir well.
  5. Let the mixture simmer on low heat until the rice or vermicelli is cooked through and the milk has thickened to a creamy consistency. This can require to 30-45 minutes.
  6. Add the sugar, cardamom pods, and saffron to the pan and stir well.
  7. Let the kheer cook on low heat for another 10-15 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the flavors have melded together.
  8. Switch off the intensity and let the kheer cool to room temperature
  9. Garnish with chopped nuts before serving.Chilled the kheer at room temperature and serve.
