How to make corned beef and cabbage at home?

Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional Irish-American dish typically served on St. Patrick's Day, but can be enjoyed in any season. Here's a recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients:

  • 4 pounds corned beef brisket
  • 10 small red potatoes
  • 5 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 large onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 bottle of dark beer (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon allspice berries
  • 3 bay leaves

Instructions:

  1. Flush the corned hamburger brisket under chilly water and wipe it off. Set aside.
  2. In a large pot, add the potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, allspice berries, and bay leaves.
  3. Place the corned beef brisket on top of the vegetables and spices.
  4. Pour in enough water to cover the meat completely. Add the beer if using.
  5. Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 3-4 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  6. Eliminate the corned hamburger from the pot and put it on cutting board.Allow it to rest it for 10-15 minutes prior to cutting it contrary to what would be expected.
  7. While the meat is resting, add the chopped cabbage to the pot and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until it is tender.
  8. Serve the sliced corned beef with the cooked vegetables and cabbage. Enjoy!
