Here's a recipe for chana chaat, a popular street food snack in South Asia:



Ingredients:

  • 1 can of chickpeas (15 oz or 425 g)
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 small cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind chutney (or substitute with lemon juice)
  • 1 tablespoon mint chutney (optional)
  • Sev (crunchy fried noodles) or papdi (fried crackers) for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Channel and flush the canned chickpeas in a colander. Add them to a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the finely chopped red onion, tomato, cucumber, green chili, and cilantro to the bowl with the chickpeas.
  3. Sprinkle chaat masala, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt over the ingredients in the mixing bowl.
  4. Add tamarind chutney and mint chutney (if using) to the bowl and mix all the ingredients together until well combined.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more salt or spices if desired.
  6. Serve the chana chaat in bowls or plates and garnish with sev or papdi. Enjoy your delicious chana chaat!
