How to make Arabic shawarma at home?
Here's a
recipe for Arabic shawarma:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. boneless chicken, sliced
thinly
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Pita bread
- Tomatoes, sliced
- Cucumber, sliced
- Red onion, sliced
- Parsley, chopped
- Tahini sauce (optional)
Instructions:
1.
In
a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin,
paprika, turmeric, salt, and pepper.
2.
Add
the sliced chicken to the bowl and toss to coat the chicken in the marinade.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
3.
Preheat
your barbecue or broiler to medium-high intensity.
4.
Skewer
the marinated chicken on metal skewers or wooden skewers that have been soaked
in water for at least 30 minutes.
5.
Grill
or roast the chicken for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the
chicken is cooked through and lightly charred.
6.
While
the chicken is cooking, warm the pita bread in the oven or on a grill for a few
minutes.
7.
To
assemble the shawarma, place a piece of warm pita bread on a plate, and top
with the grilled chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and parsley.
8.
Drizzle
with tahini sauce, if desired.
9.
Fold
the pita bread around the filling, and enjoy your delicious Arabic shawarma!
