Sushi
Here is an essential recipe fo sushi:
Ingredients:
- 2
cups sushi rice
- 2
cups water
- 1/4
cup rice vinegar
- 2
tablespoons sugar
- 1
teaspoon salt
- 4
sheets of nori (dried seaweed)
- Assorted
fillings, such as sliced avocado, cucumber, crab meat, or raw fish (such
as tuna or salmon)
- Soy
sauce, wasabi, and cured ginger, for serving
Instructions:
1.
Rinse the sushi rice several times until the
water runs clear, then drain.
2.
In a medium pot,join the rice and 2 cup of
water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer
for 15-20 minutes, until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
3.
While the rice is cooking, combine the rice
vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until the
sugar and salt are dissolved.
4.
Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large
bowl and let it cool for a few minutes.
5.
Pour the vinegar blend over the rice and mix
delicately to join. Allow the rice to cool completely.
6.
Cut the fillings into thin strips or bite-sized
pieces.
7.
Place a sheet of nori on a sushi mat or a piece
of plastic wrap. Spread a far layer of rice over the nori,leaving a 1-inch line
at the top.
8.
Place the fillings in a line in the center of
the rice.
9.
Use the mat or plastic wrap to roll the sushi
into a tight cylinder, tucking the filling in as you go.
10.
Use a sharp knife to slice the sushi into
pieces.
11.
Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and cured ginger.
