Palak
Gosht
Palak Gosht is a popular Pakistani and Indian dish made
with spinach and lamb or goat meat. Here's a recipe for Palak Gosht:
Ingredients:
- 1
lb. lamb or goat meat, cut into small pieces
- 1
large onion, chopped
- 3-4
garlic cloves, chopped
- 1
inch ginger, chopped
- 2
green chilies, chopped
- 1/2
tsp. cumin seeds
- 1/2
tsp. coriander seeds
- 1/2
tsp. turmeric powder
- 1/2
tsp. red chili powder
- 1/2
tsp. garam masala powder
- 1
tsp. salt
- 3-4
cups fresh spinach leaves, washed and chopped
- 2-3
tbsp. oil
- 1/2
cup water
Instructions:
1.
Heat the oil in an enormous pot or strain
cooker.add cumin and coriander seeds and let them pop.
2.
Add chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green
chilies. Sear until the onion become brittiant brown.
3.
Add the lamb or goat meat, turmeric powder, red
chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Blend well and sear for a couple
of moments.
4.
Add water and bring it to a boil. If using a
pressure cooker, cover the lid and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the meat is
tender.
5.
Once the meat is cooked, add the chopped
spinach leaves and mix well.
6.
Cook for a few minutes until the spinach leaves
are wilted and mixed well with the meat. If you want a more saucy consistency,
you can add more water or chicken broth at this point.
7.
Once the Palak Gosht is cooked, turn off the
heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
8.
Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
